Retiree Newsletter

For many years you may have received a paper or digital Retiree Newsletter, in which Conference retirees of all ages shared life updates and wisdom in a bi-annual publication. Like many things in 2020, the Retiree Newsletter went virtual! We're excited to provide a digital space for you to share longer updates and even photos of what you're up to, wherever you may be.

To opt-in to receive the digital Retiree Newsletter, please sign-up for our email list. For the time being, we plan to still send two editions per year.

If you have trouble with the form, don't hesitate to email Lauren Miers at lmiers@moumethodist.org

Frederick and Laura Ann Zahn: Traveling to the Holy Land

By Frederick and Laura Ann Zahn, flazahn@yahoo.com, Springfield Greetings from the hills of southwest Missouri or the Carolinas or even the Judean hills of Palestine. The Zahns have wandered in each of these the past three weeks. To experience the blessing of a Holy Land trip with our grandchildren (Zurich age 14 and Zella age 11) was a true joy. We did 'let' their parents travel with us! They enjoyed the scripture sites and the delights of Palestinian culture, including olive harvest. However,...

Bruce and Peggy Jeffries: Sharing in Musical Ministry

By Bruce and Peggy Jeffries, revbrucejkbbk@yahoo.com, Columbia We recently received the tragic news that Peggy's brother, Edward (Edd) Clayton Watts, had died as a result of untreated PTSD. He was seven years younger than Peggy. He leaves behind two children and several grandchildren. On November 13, Bruce will be giving an organ recital at the church their son, Pastor Nathan Jeffries, pastors in Oblong, Illinois. It will help provide some seed money for a new ministry that will be starting in ...

Mark Struckhoff: Serving with C2FM

By Mark Struckhoff, mstruckhoff@mumf.org, Columbia Soon after retiring in 2020, I began working with the Missouri United Methodist Foundation, serving the Clergy and Church Financial Ministry, or C2FM. I'm very grateful for the support and enthusiasm the conference has for C2FM and our mission to serve pastors in Missouri. C2FM services include Clergy Well-Being Grants for a variety of purposes, such as renewal leave, reducing household debt, relieving financial stress due to medical or ...

Don and Sally Ann Slover: Learning and Teaching with CMU

By Don and Sally Ann Slover, Farmington We are still enjoying Wynnfield Villas condo in Farmington. This is our 10th year in residence here. Our longest stay in any one place. Nearby St. Joe State Park continues to be a place for exercise, though we have given up our bicycles for walking sticks. CMU still lets us think! Sally Ann is completing her 19th year as an adjunct instructor for CMU in education. Don has enjoyed 12 years with classes in philosophy and religion.

Eugene and Lettie Morse: Traveling Around the U.S.A

By Eugene and Lettie Morse, emorse01@earthlink.net, St. Louis We have finally done some travel the past year. In the summer we drove our RV to Mesquite, Nevada, to visit with Gene's sister and do some downsizing for her. Made stops in Las Vegas to visit friends, Salt Lake City to swim in the lake and then on the way home a couple nights with friends in Keystone, Colorado, so Gene could do some fishing. Caught more than they even had! Then this fall we headed east to West Virginia for the ...

Ross and Melinda Fulton: Serving in Independence

By Ross and Melinda Fulton, rafjr231@gmail.com, Independence Melinda and I volunteer with the First UMC Independence, which accepted us in our retirement. We also volunteer quite a bit at the Wilderness Camp northeast of Kansas City (42 miles) near Lawson. The camp has 320 acres, which allows us to spread out to different areas of the camp not get in each other's way. We help with maintenance projects, painting, repairs, helping with hospitality centers during the camp's 5K run/walk and other ...

Nancye Dunlap: Moving to Meramec Bluffs

By Nancye Dunlap, Ballwin On June 6, Jim and I moved to Meramec Bluffs, which is only about 10 minutes from our villa in Fenton, where we lived for 14 years following my retirement. Meramec Bluffs is a Lutheran Senior Services facility, and we've been acquainted with it for years and knew it is a wonderful place to live!  We love our new apartment and an added bonus is that about 30 other people from Manchester UMC (where we are active in worship, etc.) also live here. And several more people ...

By Fritz and Etta Mae Mutti, ettmutti@gmail.com, Kansas City We moved to a senior living six years ago. It has been a good move for us. Etta Mae is the last remaining sibling in her family of six. Fritz is serving as the Class Steward of the Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary of 1963. He has mailed letters to all of his ...

By Carolyn Steinhaus, carolynsteinhaus@gmail.com, Columbia Hello to all. I am living in a patio home at Lenoir Woods Retirement Community in Columbia. I am thankful every day to be here.
