UMC Heritage and Theology with Monique Jones



This course introduces the basic tenets of the United Methodist Church, including the means of grace, Book of Discipline and Articles of Religion, affirming creeds, and the Wesleyan understanding of grace.

About the Instructor

Monique E.M. Jones was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee, with a business degree. She has a master’s degree in management from Webster University. Her professional career began at Sprint (T-Mobile), where she worked for 15 years. For the past five years, she has worked in the healthcare field as director of risk and compliance for Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, Inc. Outside of the office, Monique has served in various ways within her home church St. James UMC (Kansas City), where she has been a member since 1986. Her passion as a layperson is to train and educate members on the United Methodist faith and beliefs. Monique is currently attending Perkins School of Theology, from which she will graduate in 2024 with a master’s degree in ministry.

This course is one of four within the Digging Deeper pathway for laity learning and discernment. Courses on the Digging Deeper pathway are required for individuals pursuing either Certified Pulpit Supply or Certified Lay Minister in the Missouri Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
