UMCOM Christmas Tour Wraps up in KC

The Brookside Brass Quintet played holiday tunes to welcome visitors when the True Meaning of Christmas Tour pulled into its final stop in Kansas City on December 17. Set up outside Charlecote Antiques at the Crestwood Shops, guests were invited to ponder the meaning of the Christmas season while enjoying cups of hot cocoa.Country Club United Methodist Church hosted the event, which wrapped up a 23-day, 11-city road trip by The United Methodist Church.
Research shows that commercialization, crowds and spending money are what people like least about Christmas, while spending time with family and friends and religious reflection/church are favorite activities.
"Christmas is a joyful time for many, but can bring about depression, stress and loneliness for others," said Dan Krause, chief executive of United Methodist Communications, which created the tour in partnership with local churches.
The tour’s purpose, Krause said, was to help people remember that celebrating Christmas is not about to-do lists and shopping. If you're feeling stressed or alone, our hope was to connect you with a local United Methodist church to experience fellowship and explore the true meaning of Christmas.
“We’re excited that The United Methodist Church will be out among our neighbors during this Christmas season to spread love and a message of hope, along with hot cocoa,” said Rev. Keith Morgan, pastor at Country Club United Methodist Church, at the time of the event.
In addition to the Brookside Brass Quintet performance, the day’s activities included an interactive photo booth for capturing memories. A craft station also was on site for decorating greeting cards for children served through Della Lamb Community Services.
