Responding to Turkey Following Earthquakes and the War in Ukraine

Midwest Mission is working to respond to Ukraine and Turkey with some basic needs. United Methodists who would like to help, may donate the following items to Midwest Mission for inclusion in a container headed overseas. The distribution center is located in the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference and works closely with UMCOR but is not a part of UMCOR. Missouri Annual Conference Disaster Response will deliver the donated items to Midwest Mission for inclusion in the container.
  • Shampoo - 12-19 oz
  • Laundry detergent - any size up to 150 oz
  • Household cleaner - 56-80 oz
Donated items may be delivered the Missouri Annual Conference Center, 3601 Amron Ct., Columbia, MO 65202 Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. –3p.m. for delivery. The Conference Center is not open on Fridays. The deadline for all items is March 30. The Conference Center is not able to accept and store donated items on this list after March 30.
Other ways United Methodist congregations are asked to focus on the following mission and service efforts:
  • PRAY. Pray for the people of affected areas and first responders and agencies managing damage assessment. Include those affected by the quakes and aftershocks in your prayers during worship. Search Discipleship Ministries for worship resources during times of natural disaster, including a Communion liturgy appropriate for those celebrating communion and a prayer and suggested hymn list.
  • LEARN. UMCOR has processed an initial grant to International Blue Crescent, a longstanding UMCOR partner, to help provide tents, heaters, blankets, warm clothes, ready to eat meals and first aid kits to those who have been displaced. Learn more about UMCOR’s response including a short video. Stay connected by following Global Ministries Facebook page.
  • GIVE. Support relief and recovery efforts for this and other international disasters by donating UMCOR’s Advance # 982450.
