"We know we have passed from death to life because we love one another. Whoever does not love abides in death [1 John 3:14].” God’s love poured into my heart by the searching and refining fire of the Holy Spirit is not about me alone. Google the song lyrics of “Hero” by the Christian rock group Skillet. Amidst a culture of death which desperately needs the redeeming and life-giving presence of God, let’s not lose our Spirit-empowered ability to disciple the nations by allowing our love for one another to be consumed by fires we have kindled. Love bears witness that God dwells and is at work within us. Love is where the tension between faith and good works is resolved. Love is where God’s truth and God’s grace mesh within the fabric of our lives and our mission to make disciples for the transformation of the world. Otherwise, the cloth becomes shoddy and unravels. Love is the melting pot of God’s sovereignty and our responsibility.
