Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote, “Those who love their dream of a Christian community more than they love the Christian community itself become destroyers of that Christian community even though their personal intentions may be ever so honest, earnest and sacrificial … They enter the community of Christians with their demands set up by their own law, and judge one another and God accordingly. It is not we who build. Christ builds the church.” As a pastor, my intent is to do my best to discern God’s will and vision for my local congregation, surrounding community and world. Not my will, but God’s, be done. Trusting the Holy Spirit to build, may we with daily forgiveness and unconditional love for one another clear the hurdles life places in our lane. As we move from hurdle to hurdle, may we keep our eyes trained on God’s finish line. May God’s kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
