Cindy Maupin, 26, of Mexico UMC in the Mark Twain District, has just embarked on a two-year stateside mission experience as part of the General Board of Global Ministries US-2 program.

Maupin is currently at a three-week training in New York City. Upon its completion she’ll travel to the University of California –Davis, where she’ll work with the campus minister to coordinate ministries in a multi-faith living community on the campus. She will be there until July 2015.

“At the interview and discernment process in Oklahoma City, I thought the US-2 program would be a good place for me to be in service to Christ, and GBGM thought so, too,” Maupin said.

Maupin has an associate’s degree in elementary education from Moberly Area Community College, and a bachelor’s degree in health science from Truman State University in Kirksville. While training in New York, the US-2 will form a core group of young adults who are dedicated to service, and to spreading the word of Jesus Christ.

The US-2 Program is a domestic, two-year, faith and justice-centered leadership-development and mission-service program for adults, ages 20-30, interested in partnering in solidarity with faith-based organizations.

US-2s will integrate faith and justice by learning, walking, and working with communities in their struggles to address systemic injustice and human suffering. US-2s will boldly reexamine their roles and participation in society as they struggle with issues, such as hunger, homelessness, HIV/AIDS, illiteracy, children at risk, substance abuse, racism, domestic violence, and inadequate healthcare. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent life experience is required. For more on the US-2 program, visit: new.gbgm-umc.org/connections/youth/us2
