By Lovett Weems, Jr.

There are few more insightful observers of our church and society than Dr. Lovett H. Weems, Jr. Currently the director of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., Dr. Weems couples extraordinary knowledge and experience with a deep love for the United Methodist Church.

On April 23, 2015, Weems will present “Joyful Generosity: Serving God’s Vision” at the 8th Annual Leadership Institute at Central Methodist University, sponsored by the Missouri United Methodist Foundation. Weems plans “to offer local church leaders a number of practical and effective ideas to increase giving and fund ministry.”

Indeed, Weems is famous for his extensive lists of ideas.  Visit the Lewis Center website (www.churchleadership.com) and you will find “50 Ways to…” lists on all sorts of topics, including stewardship. A workshop setting allows Weems to go deeper and engage in dialogue with attendees about the specific issues they may be facing.

“One of Lovett’s greatest gifts as a teacher is his wit,” states David Atkins, director of the Foundation. “He helps remind us all not to take ourselves too seriously and to find the joy amid the stresses and strains. This will be a wonderful program for pastors and lay leaders to attend together.”

Register for the program online at www.mumf.org or call the Foundation at 800-332-8238. The cost is $35 and includes lunch and take-home materials.
