“I bleed little flames and crosses,” she said. Her great-grandfather, T.W. Glass, was a circuit rider in the Poplar Bluff area. She grew up in First United Methodist Church of Honersville, where her grandfather, a doctor who was a big supporter of the church in the days of the St. Louis Conference, was honored with a stained-glass window. 
    
But the United Methodist Church is about much more than tradition for Kennett. 
    
“I appreciate the values instilled by John Wesley that are still present in the church today,” she said. “Our church is one that is reaching out into the community, and making a difference in the world.” 
    
Kennett is an elementary school teacher, and has maintained her family tradition of being a leader in the church, serving as Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school leader, a choir member, leader of children’s church, chair of the staff parish relations committee, and a lay speaker. She is currently the song leader at First UMC New Madrid. Both of her daughter’s families are also active in that church, and son-in-law is a liturgist.
