On Sunday June 8, Gorin UMC celebrated the baptism of a baby girl, Wilhelmina Mae Root Quayle (Mina). Rev. Barbara Hagerla performed the baptism, making it the fourth generation in that family that she had personally baptized.
She previously baptized Mina’s uncle Sabe, grandfather Lonnie and great-grandmother Ruthie. Mina’s grandmother Teresa, great grandfather Orville and great grandmother Johann have also been previously baptized as United Methodists. Mina wore the same white dress that her great-great-great grandmother wore in her own baptism in 1888.
Other infant baptisms are special for different reasons. Rev. George Whitney, retired Missouri Conference elder, performed a double-baptism in the Methodist Children’s Hospital at Omaha, Nebraska. The girls were his twin granddaughters, were born 26 weeks, and are now doing well.
