Communication technology is the wonder of the present moment. Therefore, all feel the irony of how challenging it can be to communicate with a congregation.

Social media and smartphones are wonderful and cost-effective tools. Nevertheless, the tangible printed page still has a role to play in reaching all members of your congregation.

“We recommend using paper communication in targeted and personalized ways,” said David Atkins, Executive Director of the Missouri United Methodist Foundation. “The Foundation provides printed brochures in any quantity for free, along with sample letters that can be used in a mailing to personalize the message for individuals or groups within the congregation.”

“Of course, you can also attach the electronic version of the brochure and letter to an email or post on Facebook,” adds Atkins. “The Foundation staff will work with you to get you the information and materials in the format you need.”

One of the most popular Foundation brochures is “Giving Thanks at Year’s End” which offers a timely gift reminder for churches to distribute during the busy giving season of November and December. “Sometimes a simple, timely reminder can make the difference between a completed gift and a good intention,” Atkins said.

The “Giving Thanks” brochure is customized with the name of the church on the front cover. Additional brochures are available on a variety of gift topics. Churches can order as many as they need for a congregation-wide mailing or to tuck into a newsletter or bulletin.

View and order the brochures and other resources at the Foundation website, www.mumf.org. Orders can also be placed by calling the  Foundation office at 800-332-8238. Orders are encouraged by early November in order to allow time for production and shipping.
