Find a Day to Serve a Way

February 28, 2014

By Fred Koenig

Since 2011, the people of the Missouri Conference have participated in Serve, a state-wide service event the first weekend of September. Through Serve, our churches have touched thousands of lives in hundreds of communities. Starting this year Serve is going from a day to a way to reflect the missional lifestyle we strive for as United Methodists. Service is part of the United Methodist DNA, and Serve as a movement, rather than one event, represents this to our communities.

This year, Serve resources have been created without a date and made available early on so they can be utilized for regular acts of service throughout the year.

Resources are available online at www.servemo.org. The past three years have provided us many opportunities to learn about how we can serve our communities. I hope these resources equip you to continue to serve those needs beyond a weekend event.

Remember to invite your entire community to join with you in service. We all are called and have something to offer others, so let's offer dignity and opportunity for everyone through our service. Pray that God will be at work in what you say and do. Many blessings to you as you reach out to your community through the life that you lead...as you Serve!
