Central Methodist Concert Band On Spring Tour

Fayette, Mo. - The touring Concert Band of Central Methodist University is set to depart for its Spring 2016 Tour of the west side of the state from March 17 – 22.
 
Conducting the 48-member band is Roy “Skip” Vandelicht, CMU associate professor of music and director of bands. He joined Central’s Swinney Conservatory of Music fulltime in 2008 after a career teaching music at Fayette High School and an extended period also directing the CMU marching band.
 
The Concert Band will perform privately for schools during the week days, while evening performances are held at various churches and are open to the public free of charge.
Schools currently booked include those in Marshall, Carrollton, Maysville, Lockwood, Smithton, and Boonville.
 
Open evening performances include Excelsior Springs United Methodist Church (UMC) on Thursday night, March 17; Aldersgate UMC in Lee’s Summit on Friday night, March 18; Stockton UMC on Saturday night, March 19, and again on Sunday morning service; Monett UMC on Sunday night, March 20; and Blue Springs First UMC on Monday night, March 21.
 
As usual, the band’s repertoire is extensive and varied. Works will include “American Faces” by David Holsinger (CMU ’67); “Andalusia” by Hugh Stuart; “Black Granite” by James Hosay; “Bugler’s Holiday” by Leroy Anderson; “Concert Variations” by Claude T. Smith (CMU ’54); “Fantasia and Rondo” by C.M. von Weber and arranged by Ron Shroyer, CMU professor emeritus of music;
 
“First Suite in B-flat,” including Chaconne, Intermezzo, and March by Gustav Holst; “Gallant Zouaves” by Karl King and arranged by Andrew Glover (CMU ’83); “Hunter’s Moon” by Gilbert Vinter; “Morning, Noon, and Night in Vienna” by Franz von Suppé and Henry Fillmore; “Mountain Thyme” by Samuel Hazo; “Night on Fire” by John Mackey; “Oliver’s Birthday” by Bruce Broughton; “See Rock City” by Brant Karrick;
 
“Slava!” by Leonard Bernstein and Clare Grumdman; “Solid Men to the Front” by John Philip Sousa and Frank Byrne; “Solo de Concours” by Henri Rabaud and Harry Gee; and the CMU Band’s flag-songs “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite” by Karl King and “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.
 
Students playing solos will be Lucas Johnson, a senior music education major from Pacific; Katelyn Hanvey, a junior music education major from Centralia; and Dakota Bartel, a freshman music major from Yorktown, Va., on trumpets; Adam Christal, a freshman music education major from Boonville, on clarinet; Susan Bishop, a junior music education major from Fayette, on French horn; and Ryan Lewis, a senior music education major from Kaiser, on alto saxophone.
 
Following the tour, the Concert Band will present a home concert on Sunday, April 3, at 4 p.m. in Linn Memorial UMC on the Central Methodist University campus in Fayette.
