Camps at Conference

News

A hot, June afternoon didn’t stop the fun with Next Generation camping staff as they set up equipment from Spark mini-mobile camp. This gave the conference an opportunity to see exactly what it means to have a mobile camp come to their individual church.

The exciting demonstration included bungee-trampolines, rock wall, inflatable obstacle course and Gaga ball. As children and youth bounced between each activity, it was clear that the camping ministry is alive as ever.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to get a good feel; to see, experience, touch all the things we’re going to be doing this summer. They will be able to go back to their church and share our new ideas on how to do camp ministries at the local church,” said Jeff Baker, Director of Next Generation Ministries.

After the vote a few years ago to close the Conference owned campgrounds, there was concern that children and youth wouldn’t have a place to go and the benefits and memories made at summer camp would become a thing of the past. But this has since been proven wrong with nearly double the numbers of campers enrolled at mini-mobile, mobile and core camps.

Ignite mobile camps and Spark mini-mobile camps offer a more accessible camp experience while supporting the local United Methodist Church. Campers are guaranteed to return home each evening physically exhausted from all the fun they’ll experience with the mobile camps’ games and equipment, but mentally refreshed by the lessons of God’s love they’ll see exemplified in each activity.

Infuse Core Camps offer the traditional summer camp experience at a variety of campgrounds around Missouri. Disconnecting from the chaotic world for a week will enable campers to focus on nature, friends and their relationship with the Lord. Each Core Camp offers a different mission, so directors can specialize on a topic that will connect to their campers.
