There is a quote which helps explain why I take pictures. Elie Wiesel, a survivor of the Holocaust who was at Auschwitz and Buchenwald, has this to say: “The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.” My pictures are taken in large part because I don’t want to be indifferent to the beauty OR the ugliness of this world. To walk through life in a fog of indifference is to be a dead person walking. My pictures are often taken to stir my own heart and mind. Life is created to be shared, therefore I share some of my images. The body of Christ is a life together to be shared, therefore I seek koinonia. The way of faith is a journey walked together. "I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” [Rev. 3:15-16, NRSV]
