The person receiving the Mother’s Day gift flower is a lifelong, well respected and loved member of her church. Later in the service she would drop the bombshell of her decision to permanently move to Florida due to rapidly failing health. Personally, I was shocked to see her walk into church. But, she was adamant about being in this sacred space one final time. This was a special day full of tears and goodbyes to someone called irreplaceable by many in the church. What if nobody had thought it important to be at church on this day? In her entire ninety-some years, she may have never needed just the presence of her brothers and sisters in Christ as on this day. Even if you don’t think you need to be in church on a given day, someone else might be there who needs your smile, your touch, your words. That person may need you more than a good sermon, or you may be the reason a guest stays and begins a new journey of faith. “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another.” (Hebrews 10:25 NLT)
