MOAC and MUMF Unified Scholarship Application

A new application is available every January.

Applications are due by June 1 for the following academic year. 

Note:  If you are applying only for assistance in the upcoming spring semester, you may submit this application by December 31, but only MOAC funds will be available, and you must reapply by the following June 1 for the next academic year.

Awards Available

The number and amount of awards may vary depending on funds available and the number of students applying. Award decisions are based on many considerations, including student financial need, academic achievement, and academic and vocational progress. Students must reapply each year for consideration.

Your application will be considered for the following awards:

Missouri Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and Missouri Conference Student Aid Seminary Grant

Award Amount:

  • Full-time (nine-plus hours per semester): Potential full-time amount is $2,500 per semester. 
  • Part-time (6-8 hours per semester): Potential part-time amount is $1,250 per semester.   
  • Full-time grants may be given for a maximum of four years from the date of the initial grant. A combination of full-time and part-time grants may be given for a maximum of six years from the date of the initial grant.

Qualifications:

  • are enrolled in a seminary approved by the University Senate of The United Methodist Church;
  • are recognized by one of the District Committees on Ordained Ministry and/or one of the District Superintendents in the Missouri Conference as either a “certified candidate” or a person evidencing appropriate vocational potential and commitment;
  • intend to serve in some professional capacity in the ministries of The United Methodist Church in Missouri; and
  • intend to serve at least five years in ministry in Missouri.
     

Missouri United Methodist Foundation Seminary Scholars Grant

Award Amount:

  • Full-time (18+ hours per year): Potential full-time amount is $3,000 per year.
  • Part-time (12-17 hours per year): Potential part-time amount is $1,500 per year.
  • A student is eligible to receive a maximum of $9,000 within six years of the initial grant.

Qualifications:

  • Are enrolled in a seminary approved by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church;
  • Are pursuing the degree of Master of Divinity or its equivalent;
  • Are recognized by one of the District Committees on Ordained Ministry and/or one of the District Superintendents in the Missouri Conference as either a “certified candidate” or a person evidencing appropriate vocational potential and commitment;
  • Intend to be ordained into the full-time ministry of The United Methodist Church in Missouri; and
  • Intend to serve at least five years in full-time, pastoral ministry in Missouri after ordination.
     

C2FM Seminary Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,500 and eligibility to apply for a second $2,500 following graduation and appointment.

Qualifications:

  • Must meet all eligibility requirements for the Missouri UM Foundation Seminary Scholars Grant.
  • Must work with a C2FM financial coach and complete at least three coaching sessions within one year of receiving the scholarship.
  • Must provide financial coach with your household financial information and complete the Financial Well-Being survey.
  • Following completion of the C2FM coaching, graduation from the degree program, and appointment to ministry within the MOAC, the recipient is eligible to receive an additional $2,500 for either student loan repayment or as a contribution to a retirement savings account.  The recipient must apply for the additional award by contacting the MUMF and providing appropriate confirmation that all conditions of eligibility have been met.

The Fine Print

To be eligible for consideration for any of the awards described below, a student must be recognized as having a serious vocational interest in professional ministry in Missouri by a Missouri District Committee on Ordained Ministry and/or a Missouri District Superintendent. It is strongly recommended that a student be a certified candidate for ministry in Missouri. (See paragraphs 310 and 311 in The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 2012.) Students should contact their District office to discuss the candidacy process. Additional eligibility requirements for specific awards are described below.

For the MOAC awards, one-half of the award is distributed in the fall semester and one-half is distributed in the spring semester. If a student’s enrollment status decreases from that reported on the application (e.g., a student drops to half-time from full-time), the award will be reduced proportionately if not yet released, or a refund will be requested from the educational institution. Awards cannot be increased. Typically, checks are issued jointly to the student and the educational institution and delivered to the registrar of the institution.
