Four Directions/Core Competencies Experienced in a 48-hour gathering of clergy:
- Holiness /Pastoral Development
- Leadership & Worship
- Social Holiness/Missional Readiness
- Strategic Planning
Compass is a two-year covenantal, continuous peer learning experience. It is designed to promote resources which strengthen a pastor’s spiritual life and pastoral effectiveness.
Compass builds on a pastor’s core competencies. Over a two-year period participants will learn from nationally recognized leaders in eight large group gatherings. Four of those gatherings (Directions) will be 48-hour advance retreats around the conference.
Participants will also gather for Saturday events (Regional Day Apart) four times throughout the Compass program. To align clergy/lay learning and integration of such learning into the congregation, Regional Day Aparts will also include (at the participant’s invitation) key lay leaders from the congregation in which the Compass participants are serving. Together, you will discuss how the learning impacts your particular ministry setting and Kingdom Work. We want to further facilitate your learning and integration by providing a coach who will work with you and your lay people at the Regional Day Apart. Some of you may already be working with a pastoral coach, but the Compass coach will focus on the work of the church. In the registration process, you will be able to name your coach and we will try to be as accommodating as possible. Regional Day Aparts will be offered in three different geographic locations: St. Louis, Kansas City or Springfield with participants selecting their preferred learning region.
Participants will meet in seven gatherings in the between-times for four hour sessions over the two-year period. They are led by a chosen/trained Journey leader. Journey groups will be configured after enrollment by affinity. Groups will hold one another accountable and share best practices.
The cost to participate in this program is $900 and is to be paid in two installments of $450 each. The first of which will be due by July 10, 2015, and the second will be due by July 10, 2016. This cost will cover all room and food during events, as well as costs associated with our speakers, Journey group leaders and our resource desk. Childcare will be available at the last three 48-hour retreats (9 am – 5 pm). Participants to whom it relates are encouraged to apply for their remaining Quadrennial BOM Continuing Education Grant (http://www.moumethodist.org
) to offset expenses.
We continue to work on building our speaker list, and as those details are ironed out you will be provided with updated information.
Please contact Karen Hayden with any questions you may have about the program. We hope that you will join us in this exciting Compass movement in the Missouri Conference.
Submit your application and payment to the attention of Jenny Gragg (jgragg@moumethodist; 3601 Amron Court Columbia, MO 65202.) Compass is limited to the first 40 participants who register. Participant’s registration in the program is confirmed when payment is made.
