The Methodist Movement is a laity-led movement. Now, more than ever, laity are needed across the Missouri Conference. We need educated, empowered and equipped laity to lead our churches.
We believe that all are called to be servants for Jesus. That doesn’t need a title or status. And we believe that we are all called in different ways – some to preach, some to teach, some to lead, some to offer comfort, some to build, some to organize – the list goes on and on.
The Missouri Conference is committed to educating and empowering laity to go out, using the gifts each of us has been given, and be the hands and feet of Jesus and to ensure laity in Missouri are equipped for the needs unique to our Conference.
Educational opportunities equip laity for all levels of service to the local church. Whether you’re looking to learn more about our United Methodist connection or pursuing a certified status, there are classes and resources available for you! Many of these courses are available on our Absorb Self-Paced Learning Portal (coming in spring 2023!). Use the links below to explore the different options:
If you are pursuing a certified status, make sure to check out the newly revamped Pathway to Certified Lay Ministry document that will guide your steps.
Missouri Conference lay ministries are coordinated and supported by two hardworking teams of Missouri United Methodist laity. They are here to guide you and answer your questions! Each district has at least one lay leader and lay education coordinator. Use the buttons below to see team member lists and contact information.
District Lay Education coordinators partner with the Conference Lay Education Director to plan and facilitate lay education courses – both in person and online. District coordinators are here to help you along your education and certification journey!
The Conference Lay Ministry Team supports congregations through the training, support and empowering of lay leadership for ministry including the ministries of lay servants, lay leaders and those serving as certified lay ministers.
To support this laity-led movement, the Missouri Conference provides staff support to this ministry area. Morgan Scott is the team’s administrator, and her email is email@example.com. She is a part-time employee, so please give her at least five days to respond to your inquiry. If you have an emergent request, don’t hesitate to copy Jenny Gragg, assistant to the Center for Leadership Excellence, on your email.
