Thank you for your inquiry. We are excited to host the called session of General Conference in February 2019. Our hospitality leadership team will open online sign-ups for hospitality volunteering in October-November. Please keep an eye out for more communication at that time. Priority will go to Missouri and Illinois Great Rivers members as co-hosts of the special session and there will be required hospitality and intercultural awareness training for every volunteer. We would love for you to be a part of demonstrating radical hospitality to all of our guests come February 2019.
The Missouri and Illinois Great Rivers Conferences have established a volunteer reimbursement policy for the special session and volunteers will acknowledge receipt of the policy before signing up. This will only apply to lay and clergy members of the two conferences. It will NOT include hotel reimbursement.
It has been decided not to have an exhibition hall during the special session. For those interested in 2020 opportunities, please contact Raquel Pérez-Molloy, Assistant Business Manager, The United Methodist General Conference at (615) 369-2350 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers will not be able to watch the session during a volunteer work shift because they will be working.
Preference will be given to Missouri and Illinois Great Rivers members. All volunteers will be required to sign a covenant agreement, liability waiver, participate in hospitality and intercultural awareness training, as well as job-specific training.
The Commission on General Conference manages recruitment and selection of marshals and pages for the legislative meeting. Missouri and Illinois Great Rivers will only provide hospitality volunteers who will not “work” within the plenary session.
We cannot accommodate requests to provide or coordinate accommodations for members of annual or central conferences. Sara Hotchkiss, Business Manager for the Commission on General Conference, has advised us to refer inquiries such as yours to her office:

There is no expectation that clergy attend the Special Session of General Conference unless they are part of the delegation. Clergy, as well as laity, are welcome to attend as guests (registration required). There is a suggested badge fee of $7 for early registration and $10 for on-site registration to offset the costs of the credentialing process. Early registration is now available through January 31, 2019. Clergy and lay members of the Missouri Annual Conference are also welcome to apply as volunteers in the area of hospitality by visiting www.moumethodist.org/gc2019. Those selected to volunteer will NOT need to register as a guest.
Clergy and lay members selected as hospitality volunteers have expectations outlined in an accountability covenant to follow while volunteering. Visit www.moumethodist.org/gc2019 to learn more. Guests to the Special Session will be restricted to certain areas of the meeting. Guest badges will give the owner access to the guest seating section only. The Plan of Organization and Rules of Order for the 2019 General Conference outlines behavior of Guests and Observers. That information can be found in Rule 18 Distracting Behavior and Rule 19 Electronic Recording found on page 48 of the Advanced Daily Christian Advocate.
Yes, United Methodist Communications will be live streaming the Special Session. The live stream link will be shared closer to February 24-26, 2019.
