Class Summary

This course will work with an approach to biblical interpretation that takes both texts and reading context into account. Each participant will also study how historical, social, and cultural diversity are part of the study of the Bible and leading Bible study in various forms. Rev. Bryan Schaefer, the lead pastor of Fredericktown UMC, will be facilitating this class. 

This class is one of the courses required for Certified Pulpit Supply in the new Lay Education certification pathway. 

  • Course Dates: Saturday, April 15
  • Course Location: Salem UMC 
  • Course Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 PM (check-in begins at 8:30 am)
  • Course Fee: $15 - includes lunch, snack, and course materials handed out during class

Before the First Class: 

Participants will need to purchase the book,  Biblical Interpretation: A Roadmap by Sharon H. Ringe and Frederick C. Tiffany.  Participants are encouraged to read the book and take notes/questions before the course begins. 

The book is available via  Amazon or Cokesbury .
