In recent days, several churches have contacted the Office of Financial and Administrative Ministries and its Director, Rev. Nate Berneking, with questions about the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and its recent bankruptcy. In each of those questions, we have advised that we were awaiting guidance from the United Methodist General Council on Finance & Administration (GCFA).

Recently, General Counsel for GCFA, Bryan Mills, issued guidance requesting that any church that has ever chartered or otherwise sponsored a Boy Scout Troop, Cub Scout Pack or Venturing Crew should take action to preserve any potential claims they may have.
