Lay Servant Ministries offer opportunities for laity who desire to use their witness, leadership, and service to inspire others to a deeper commitment to Christ and more effective discipleship.
INTRODUCTION TO LAY MINISTRY: THE BASIC COURSE
This Basic course is required for all levels of recognition in Lay Servant Ministries. It will familiarize you with Leading, Caring and Communicating ministries and give you a chance to explore each one. Upon completion of this course, we hope that you will have a basic knowledge of what is means to be a United Methodist and an idea about which area of ministry God is calling you to pursue.
- Course Materials: Lay Servant Ministries Participants Book by Sandy Zeigler Jackson
- Course Leaders: Rev. Tadd Kruithoff, Karen Bangert, Mike Rushing and Denny Callen
This course focuses on helping participants understand spiritual gifts and how the church can use them to fulfill its mission and ministry. Participants will also learn what it means to be a spiritual leader and will be equipped to lead others in exploring and using their spiritual gifts.

- Course Leader: Karen Bangert
This course is designed for those who have NOT completed formal preaching training who might be asked to preach in a pastor’s absence AND for anyone who might be doing a presentation in a public setting. This course will have a follow up opportunity to preach for those completing this course for Lay Speaker credit.
