Communications Director - First UMC (Blue Springs)

First United Methodist Church Blue Springs is a 150 year old church in a suburb of Kansas City continuing to adapt and change in order to lead people to an active faith in Christ. We’re looking for a passionate and talented Communications Director who will help share their creative ability with our church family!

About this role: The primary responsibility of the Communications Coordinator is to lead in the creation of materials, systems and strategies for all church communications. The broad scope includes creating copy, graphics, social media posts, website updates and print materials. Any additional skills are welcome, but not required!

Qualifications: Related work experience, training, and/or education sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Duties Include:
  • Effectively and strategically manage and grow digital communication platforms:
    • Social media
    • Website
    • Instagram
    • Others
  • Acquire or design graphics for sermon series and church events. (we’re currently using MinistryPass designs.)
  • Design and prepare print materials including our monthly newsletter and weekly worship bulletins.
  • Provide support for weekend worship communications, such as graphics, video clips, and scheduling online services.
  • Collaborate with the lead staff to identify priorities and determine direction for communications efforts based on the church’s yearly calendar, goals, and initiatives.
  • Create ads and manage budget for online and social media marketing on Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads for Nonprofits, etc. to boost messages to a wider audience. Research new forms of digital advertising and remain current on digital marketing trends and best practices.
  • Develop volunteer teams as deemed necessary to accomplish communication goals.
  • Attending staff meetings and any other strategic meeting assigned by the Lead Pastor.
Lines of Accountability: The NextGen Director will supervise the Youth Director, Nursery Coordinator, and Curriculum Support Assistant. The NextGen Director will report to the Lead Pastor for the purpose of work evaluation and review. This position is finally accountable to the Leadership Council of First United Methodist Church and has direct access to that committee when desired. A written copy of employee policies, guidelines, benefits and holidays is on file in the Church office and can be requested.

  • This position is 30 hours a week
  • $36,000 salary
  • 15 Paid-Time Off (PTO) days per year + holidays
  • Pension benefit of 4% of annual salary (after 12 months)
