Church Relations Manager - Wespath Benefits and Investments (Glenview, Illinois)

SUMMARY:  This minimally supervised position supports the Managing Director of Church Relations in propagating mutually beneficial relationships between Wespath and the United Methodist Church (UMC). The Manager serves as a liaison and ambassador to UMC groups and individuals, related organizations and other key stakeholders. The manager also manages client relationships with the international plan sponsors of Central Conference Pension (CCP) plans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  (The following are intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this position.  It is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements.)

  • Represents Wespath at domestic and international UMC events and meetings.

  • Establishes and cultivates relationships with other general agencies and annual conference leaders. Works with managing director to develop and deliver resources and information of value or relevance UMC leaders and denominational task forces or groups.

  • Works with other Wespath department to help assure messaging that is consistent across Wespath audiences.

  • Manages schedule for CCP plan reviews; assists with and will eventually conduct the plan reviews.Works with Communications department to communicate the CCP story to key UMC audiences and constituencies.

  • Works with other Wespath departments and personnel involved in supporting CCP to assure the program is adequately and correctly administered and operates smoothly for Central Conferences and Wespath.

  • Participates in General Conference (GC) preparations including helping to convey and interpret Wespath’s GC propsals to delegations, conference Boards of Pensions, and other interested entities .

  • Assists managing director in the successful implementation of the Lilly Endowment National Initiative to Address Economic Challenges Facing Pastoral Leaders. Help expand the denominational appreciation for and participation in the effort.


Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.

  • Experience or familiarity with the polity, structure and governance system within the United Methodist Church.

  • Experience as a representative of a group or organization to an external audience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Client relationship management experience with clients in Africa, Asia, or Europe; preferably retirement plan clients.

  • Fluency in French or Portuguese.

  • CEBS, CFP, CPA or CFA certification.

  • Knowledge of Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, 401(k) or 403 (b) Pension Plans.
