Running for a Cause - "Imagine No Malaria"

Here we go again . . . . Yes, another Marathon – 26.2 miles.

On Labor Day (Sept. 2), I’ll be running the Heart of America Marathon in Columbia. I’ve been training some for this, and hope to battle the heat, humidity, and hills to qualify to run Boston again with my daughter April.

I’m also running for a cause bigger than any of us: “Imagine No Malaria”, which is a major emphasis of the United Methodist Church. You might remember the very successful “Nothing But Nets”. This cause takes further the fight against the killer disease of malaria, to actually envision eliminating it altogether. Our Missouri Conference is particularly interested in this due to our relationship with the church in Mozambique. The conference is emphasizing “Imagine No Malaria” in 2013-14, and we’ll be raising a lot of money toward the effort. So, I’d like to make this marathon part of it by running for the cause.

I’d simply like to invite friends to contribute a dollar or two per mile to “Imagine No Malaria”. Or, simply contribute to saving 1 or 2 lives (just $10 can save 1 life!). Or, some may participate by running themselves and raising funds. Some have already helped, contributing when I ran last November in Springfield – if you were one, thanks again.

If you or someone you know would like to help this time, simply send a check or pledge to the conference office, made out to “The Missouri Conference” with a notation “Brian’s marathon -- Imagine No Malaria”. There’s not much time as the marathon is a few days away, so checks / pledges need to come in quickly.

Whether it’s this or any number of other events going on around the conference this year to raise funds for the cause, I hope everyone will take time to learn about how we can wipe out this killer disease – very soon – and contribute to the cause.

THANKS for your support, encouragement, prayers, and vision to “Imagine No Malaria”!
