The Clergy Support Team has created a grant application to be used by those retirees who are unable to obtain supplemental insurance coverage within the current monthly stipend amount. It is also available to those retirees who will reach the “doughnut hole” in prescription drug coverage and need assistance with the expenses incurred through that span. Maximum amount of funds available will be 50% of prescription expenses up to $2,250. This grant would only be available to those retirees who were on the Conference health insurance plan until December 31, 2008.
A subcommittee of the Clergy Support Team will review the applications and work through the approval process. Retirees applying for this application will be required to provide documentation addressing the need for the grant. The documentation required is outlined on the application form.
This grant would be available for the year's expenses only, and income received from the grant would need to be reported as taxable income.
You may also request an application by calling Trudy McManus at the Conference office at (573) 777-1211 .
Retirees receiving funds from Wespath retirement plans are allowed to treat some of the income as “housing.” This means the income will not be taxable under the Internal Revenue Code. For this to happen, the Annual Conference must adopt a resolution allowing retirees to make the designation. We do this each year in session.
For 2022’s tax year, the resolution is found on page 125 of the 2022 Journal. Simply provide the resolution to your tax preparer or, if preparing yourself, retain a copy for your records. Wespath can also be helpful in understanding the tax implications of your pension. Contact them at 1-800-851-2201 and select option 1.
