The historic beginnings of the UMC in Mozambique relate back to Cambine Mission Station. Now a complex of schools at every level (pre-school, elementary, secondary), including boarding schools, the United Methodist seminary, a clinic and an orphanage is home to about 3,500 people. This mission station continues to make history with each new venture.
Cambine Mission is located in the southern part of the country, about 500 kms north from the Maputo, the capital. In addition to various programs that the first missionaries implemented, the agricultural program has been the most successful. It has attracted youth, Eduardo Mondlane the first President of the ruling party, and many refugees due to war conditions. Cambine has been popular as a Christian mission in addition to an agricultural station.
The mission station is now home to many ministries of the United Methodist Church, providing many teachers, including some US Peace Corp workers.
