La Croix and Nicoadala Face to Face

I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.2 John 1:12

The people of La Croix UMC knew their partner church was in a very poor, densely populated area of Northern Mozambique. La Croix UMC lived out their covenant with Nicoadala UMC, making financial contributions, praying for and writing to their covenant partner since they made a covenant in June 2000.  But then they did more.  Through their letters they learned of Nicoadala’s dream of a permanent chapel building in 2005.  They tithed a portion of their own capital campaign to make that dream a reality and sent a 2006 mission team to help with construction.  In October 2008 a second La Croix mission team had the great JOY of participating in the dedication of the chapel at Nicoadala UMC.

Pastor Ron Watts writes: Words can hardly describe the emotions that welled up inside as I saw the “Nicoadala” sign at the city limits. You see, it wasn’t the 9,000 mile journey and the realization that we had finally arrived at our destination. It was the ten years of relationships; it was the visits to Cape Girardeau from the previous pastor and bishop. It was years of prayers and correspondence. It was shared dreams and a genuine partnership in the gospel. It was three years of construction on the new “chapel.” And now I’m in the city of Nicoadala, home to the largest United Methodist church in the northern conference and our covenant partner for the past decade.

Not every partner can contribute the $86,000+ to help build a chapel like Nicoadala.  Many can only contribute their annual partnership off $990 (or less).  So you can help.

Please pray that other churches in Mozambique get to experience the JOY that the dedication of a permanent chapel brings to the congregation with the JOY of many relationships through the church.  Pray that during this Lenten season we may be transformed by the life, death and resurrection of the One who brings our own lives into a new perspective – that of the cross.

Encourage one another and build each other up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV
