School of Congregational Development: The Race

The School of Congregational Development is a premier event for United Methodist Leaders for equipping conference leaders, clergy, and laity to lead vital, dynamic, life-changing congregations. The school will be Thursday, August 14 to Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Matthews UMC in Charlotte, NC. SCD 2014 starts at 2:00 pm on Thursday and concludes at noon on Sunday.

Our presenters will speak to the theme of The Race: Strategies for Relevant, Authentic, Christ-centered Engagement with the World.

SCD 2014 Charlotte will give you the tools and insights you need to create a dynamic ministry. This year’s focus on “THE RACE: Strategies for Relevant, Authentic, Christ-centered Engagement with the World” will challenge participants to share a life-transforming relationship with Christ with people in their neighborhoods and communities. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of seminars and ministry tracks led by leading pastors and congregational development staff from across the United Methodist Church.

Be sure to register by July 15th

If you are planning to attend this year’s SCD 2014, which will be in Charlotte on August 14 – 17, be sure to register by July 15th to take advantage of the regular rate which is $425. It will go up to $475 on the 16th.

This year’s schedule is packed with opportunities for you to be equipped for congregational transformation and many of the sessions are almost full. As a participant you will be able to attend one seminar, one ministry track, two Lunch Idea Marts, and one local church for worship on Sunday. New this year are the Pre-Conference Seminars and the Lunch Marts.

Pre-Conference Seminars
Very popular this year are the four Pre-Conference Seminars that take place Thursday morning from 8:30 am to 12 noon. Almost half of those who have registered are doing one of the following:

Lunch Idea Marts
Taking advantage of being in a church has allowed us to offer Idea Marts during lunch on Friday and Saturday. These 40-minute sessions are designed to share key resources that participants can use when they get back to their ministries. The Idea Marts are:
