Community United Methodist Church, 3301 W Broadway in Columbia MO along with Family Counseling Center of MO, INC is hosting a Mental Health First Aid training in October. This is a 12 hour training spread over 4 weeks. Every Thursday in October(7,14,21,28) the training will be held from 5:30pm to 9:00pm with dinner provided in Room 512 (there will be signs posted).
Participants must attend all 4 sessions to become certified. CEUs are available upon request. The total cost for all sessions is $25 to cover materials and food. This 12-hour course teaches non-clinically trained individuals how to:
Give first aid to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis situation and/or who are in the early stages of a mental health disorder
Learn the signs and symptoms of the most common mental health problems
Where and when to get help
What type of help has been shown to be effective.
Mental health problems covered include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, self-injury, and substance use disorders.
