“Here I Am, Lord”
Lay Servant Ministry Training
Saturday, September 19th, 9am--4:30pm
St. Paul’s UMC, 1111 Foxwood Drive, Raymore, MO

The Heartland District is offering both a basic course and an advanced course for anyone interested in lay servant ministries, prior to church charge conferences this fall. Please join us for a day of learning, networking and encouragement. Unlike previous years, this fall’s courses will be just one, jam-packed day. Registration includes materials, snacks and lunch.

Basic Course
(Leader TBD) This basic course is an introductory course designed to equip new leaders and to renew current leaders. The course is foundational for other lay leadership training courses and will cover three main categories of Lay Servant Ministries: leading, caring, and communicating. This course is a prerequisite for advanced courses. This class is great for new servant leaders in your church, or for those needing a refresher on the “how-to’s” of ministry. Class size also lends itself to some great conversations and insights from other participants.

Advanced Course
Pastor Bob Maffitt will lead this course, using the book, “Dancing With Words” by Ray Buckley. Pastor Maffitt is a certified biblical storyteller with the Network of Biblical Storytellers, and a retired elder of the Missouri Conference. The focus of the course will be using stories from the bible as a way to present a sermon, and how to form and give a short sermon. There will be a great deal of information presented in this course, and the book should be read prior to class. The book will be delivered to your home church upon registration being received.

** Lay servants are required to take an advanced or refresher course every three years to maintain active lay servant ministries status. If you are unsure if you need to complete a course prior to the end of this year to maintain active status, please contact Tasha Stephens, Heartland District Lay Servant Ministries Coordinator at (816) 309-5642 or tashamstephens@hotmail.com
